Academic Background: Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), University of Maiduguri
Public Health Interests: Infectious and Chronic diseases
Public Health Experience: There’s a lot to talk about here. As a physician, I have worked and volunteered with several governmental and Non-governmental organizations in Nigeria in trying to provide basic health care services to the vulnerable population. As an intern, I worked under the PEPFAR unit of the hospital in preventing the spread of HIV, managing and counseling infected patients. I have also with the aid of some colleagues conducted medical outreach programs In the South South region of Nigeria which is currently experiencing environmental hazards from the never-ending oil spillage. Several viral screenings were done, Rapid Diagnostic Tests, Health talks, and issuing of medications like antihypertensives, anti-malaria, and hyperglycemic agents. Worthy of note is The Samuel Erivwo Foundation in which I was also a volunteer in providing basic health care services to the vulnerable population.
Why I chose the MPH program at UNC at Charlotte: Where else would I have chosen? Coming to UNC at Charlotte was more like a divine mandate. UNCC ticked all my boxes.
