Faculty Update: Dr. Michele Issel

Dr. Michele Issel, professor and Director of the PhD in Public Health Sciences Program, presented three of her research projects at the APHA 2015 annual meeting in Chicago, IL. Using data from a study funded by the Health Resources Services Administration, Dr. Issel gave two oral presentations while at APHA. One presentation titled, “Measuring population-patient satisfaction with public health nursing: A new approach,” addressed developing a population focused approach to measuring satisfaction. The other presentation, “RN salary gap in county labor markets: Public health nurses versus hospital nurses” highlighted the profound salary compression for public health nurses. Using data from a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded study, she presented finding on the “Relationship between local health department organizational characteristics and changes in maternal and child health services profile. Also while at APHA, Dr. Issel spent time at the UNC Charlotte booth where she met multiple students from around the country who recognized her textbook Health Program Planning and Evaluation: A Pragmatic, Systematic Approach for Community Health.
